Dance
Lane
has been dancing for over seven years. What began as a hobby has become
a passion. Lane began her dance studies in folkloric bellydance with
Pat Kellar Studios. From her first workshop with Morocco, she knew dance
would always infuse her life. Later, she moved into Tribal Improvisation,
joining Barika Bellydance. Lane left Barika to pursue a solo career
and collaborations, including the formation of Khivan
with Kristel Cornell. Lane Ellen's style of dance combines elements
of folk dancing, modern dance, cabaret and tribal style bellydance.
Her intuitive understanding of music and movement not only makes her
a lively dancer to watch, but a powerful teacher and organizer.
Lately,
the cultural influence of the Milwaukee folk dancing community has led
her to become very involved in folk dance, particularly Balkan.
Lane continues to be involved in the dance community. In addition, Lane
is a cofounding member of Duende Dance Collective, a local community
with the goal of collaboration across dance styles. (Lane's
full dance resume is here.)
Vocals
Lane has
always been a singer (just ask everyone around her.) From high school
where she managed the Madrigal event and the Concert Choir, to Marquette
University Chorus, to her current involvement with The
Dark Clan, a genre-bending band in Milwaukee, Lane finds a way to
keep flexing the chords. Her current hope is to find the time to learn
traditional Turkish and Balkan folk songs. (Lane's full vocal resume
is here.)
